After making macaron for the past 2 weeks, I have a lot a lot of leftover egg yolks.
So try to find something using egg yolks and tadaaaaa....

Swiss roll! Trust me, it used load of egg yolks

I actually want to make the pattern on the top but totally forget after the batter is ready. lol!
If you put pattern, it should be looked like the below pic.
I made it when I was in Indo, pretty ya?

Anyway, recipe:

Ingredients:

9 egg yolks
2 eggs
6 gr emulsifier
1,5 gr vanilla powder
70 gr icing sugar
37,5 gr flour (I use Indonesian flour, kunci biru)
7,5 gr milk powder
75 gr butter, melted
12.5 gr vegetable oil
strawberry jam for filling

Direction:

Beat egg yolks and egg until bubbly.
Add icing sugar until it rises a bit, then add emulsifier and vanilla powder, mix well until the dough form a ribbon.
Add flour and milk powder with the medium speed until it is mixed well only, turn off the mixer.
Using spatula, put butter and oil, mix well.
Bake for 10-15 minutes in 200 degree Celcius.
When it's done, remove from the tray, spray the jam and roll straight away.
Leave it until it's cold before cutting it to pieces.

But instead of making the whole cake, I make the cupcake version.

They are so pretty and cute, aren't they?
And it tastes good as well :)

1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
food coloring (red, blue, green and yellow)

Directions:

  1. Put butter in a mixing bowl.
  2. Sift dry ingredients together in separate bowl.
  3. With a mixer, mix the dry ingredients in slowly with the butter.
  4. Add 1/2 cup milk and the egg to the dry ingredients and beat until flour is fully moistened.
  5. Add the remaining milk, vanilla and beat for about another minute.
  6. Evenly divide the batter into six small bowls. Dye each bowl of batter a rainbow color; Purple – 9 red and 6 blue drops, Blue – 12 drops, Green – 12 drops, Yellow – 12 drops, Orange – 12 yellow and 4 red drops and Red– 18 drops.
  7. Line 12 muffin pan wells with baking cups. Evenly distribute the purple batter among the cups, then the blue, green, yellow, orange and then top with red, following the order listed. As you go, gently spread each layer of batter with the back of a spoon to cover the color underneath.
  8. Bake at 375F for 15 to 18 minutes or until a cake tester or toothpick inserted into the middle of a cupcake comes out clean.

I am seeing this Master Chef Season 4 Episode 14 about the Pressure Test.
The 3 candidates need to make Peter Gilmore's Signature Eight-Texture Chocolate Cake.
Geez! I am watching it, I am saliva-ing, I am amazed, I am shocked, I want to eat it and I want to make it (but forget the last one).

It is so cool!! So awesome!
Like what he said in Master Chef episode:

"It was 7 main elements and there is one more, the 8th texture... the hot chocolate ganache to be served in the front of the guest as the key. When we put the ganache on the center of the cake, we went, and waited a little while... some magical happens."

God! Look so yummy!

Please do look at the pic, the video in youtube and the full video on how to make it in Master chef.

I think I am obsessed with Red Velvet.. for this moment.
I know red velvet has been popular for ages but I haven't really made this one of my favorite cakes.
But, don't know why I just like it recently. Probably just the beautiful red color.

Well, I found some good recipes for different kind of desserts made from red velvet.
So, I will definitely try make some later when my holiday ends :))

Wish me luck! Ciao!

Finally have time to make this cream puffy yesterday.
Got the recipe from here.

The pastry was perfect but for the filling, I chose Vla Napoleon which there was a bit of technical issue. LOL!
I think I used wrong ingredients for the Whipped Cream.
Also, I read the recipe, it said 5 tbs of rhum. The results were too much, I can smell the alcohol really strong and the taste... omg! hahahaha...

If you like to drink alcohol then you will love this filling for sure.
But for general? I asked one of my friends to try, she said it is eatable and it actually tasted good.
I plan to bring this to Chinese New Year tonight, but I doubt it now.
Will see...

I made egg tart yesterday and I bring it to work today.
It's gone, 21 of them. hahahaha... So happy ^^

Here is the recipe:

Base:
100gr butter
200gr plain flour
50gr icing sugar
1 egg

Filling:
140gr sugar
3 eggs
70ml water
80ml evaporated milk

How to make it?

Base:
1. Mix all the ingredients and leave it for a moment until it does not stick anymore, leave it for a while.

Filling:
1. Boil the water and sugar (no need to stir it), leave it until it's cold or warm.
2. Once it's not hot anymore and the base is ready in the tray, pour the mixture of sugar and water to eggs and milk > stir it.
3. Sift the mixture and pour it to the base.

And.... tadaaaa....

Well, yesterday I tried this recipe for Terang Bulan because I have basically nothing to do. I tried the recipe from here and it is quite fine. At first, it was not perfect but at last it was. 750 cc water
1 egg
50 gr sugar
1 table spoon salt
1 tea spoon baking soda

1. Mix all the ingredients except baking soda.

3. Heat the pan.
4. Put the baking soda to the dough, stir it until it is mixed.
5. Pour the dough to the pan (not all, it depends on how big is your pan and how much is the dough). With this recipe, it can be up to 3 times using 24cm diameter pan.
6. Cook until the top of the dough dry and porous.

I made brownies yesterday as I don't have any activity at the moment. Besides, yesterday me and my housemates hold a housewarming party so we think that yesterday was the right time to bake a cake. I chose to make brownies because it's the easiest cake to be made. Actually, I gave her options between muffin and brownies and she chose brownies because muffin is common already. The results? hmmm... well, I don't expect more because the ingredients are different. The thing is my recipe is from Indo and I once made it in Indo and succeed. However, the ingredients here and Indo are slightly different. Even I tried to find Indo's ingredients here but I didn't use it all. I still used chocolate and margarine from Australia which I expect should be better. The fact, the brownies smelled so good and the taste was so good as well but because this is the first time I bake at my new house, I haven't known my oven well yet so I did a small mistake yesterday when I went to bake it.

You can see the difference by looking at the photos. The first one (left)  has lighter color but the second one has better texture. hahahahhaa... I gave the recipe just in case you want to try it. The recipe is actually good enough, you just need to choose and buy the ingredients smartly :)

I am going to bake another cakes later.... Hope this time will be better.

I am CRAVING for PUTU!!!!

For you who don't know what putu is..
It's a kind of cake, Indonesian traditional cake actually.
It's made by rice flour and filled by palm sugar and strewed by grated coconut and it is steamed.
YUMMY!!!

Here are some of the pictures:

It's usually sold in Java island.. and don't try to find the pure (original) one in shop. They won't be there. The original one and the best taste one is sold along the way. Usually the seller is man, they will go to several places by walking and pushing carts. People will know if there is a putu seller around by listening to the sound. Putu seller usually signed by a sound like 'nguinggggg'. It comes from the steaming equipment. hahaha... Don't what it is called specifically. You will know when you meet them ;p

I really love it. The last time I ate putu is like almost 5-7 years ago. Can't even remember. huhuhu...
I love especially the one with a lot of palm sugar inside. hohoho..
So it will taste sweet, warm and yummy.
Oh noooo!!! I'm hungry now.
And.. just now, I heard it. The sound of 'nguinngggg' outside my house.
I tried to find it, I went outside straight away but there was nothing.
Just the sound left and gone after time T-T
Ooohhh... my putu cake!
I will definitely buy it when I hear the sound again.
I have to eat it before going back to Melbourne. hahaha...

So, you guys have to try it if you haven't. It is so gooooooodddddd!!!
And eat it when it is still warm... will be so delicious. haha...
If you like kind of traditional cake, there are many kinds in Java.
In my city, putu, serabi and leker are very popular.
Enjoy guys! Hope you like it :)

Just got home few hours ago...
Gave surprise for Maria
It's her birthday yesterday (in Melb time)

Happy 21st Birthday tayank...
(again).. haha... udh berapa kali ya nylametin nya? :p
So, here is the story.. We planned to give her a surprise but not sure when because she and us (me, Tom, Erick, Ivan, and another Ivan) have different event on 4th sept.
So, we decided to give the surprise in the 5th, exactly in the day.
We planned to give her "ucapan" as usual as we can so she will think that we won't give any surprise.
And I think it worked, is it? haha...
The cake?! I was browsed facebooked like 3days ago and accidentally found someone's profile that full of cake. And I had a look and WOW!! hahaha.. it's amazing. So I contacted her and asked her is it possible to get a cake for the day, but because of that time is already midnight so there was no reply.
So I asked my friend, Ivan Yang, to contact her in the morning and we did...!! YAYYYY!!
We got the cake on time, even too early.
I request the cake with the soft color because Maria likes soft color like creme, gold, bronze. hehe.. And the shoe is gold. Thanks for Kak Evi for this. She really made it, the gold shoe.
Maria said 'nice color' when she look at the cake and the shoe. hehe...
I think you guys are confused with the meaning of shoe in the cake. Here, I give u the picture of the cake...

NB: Photo is taken from cookinginmelb.blogspot.com (the cake maker)
What a great cake, ya?
So yeah...
We did the surprise just few hours ago, right at 11.55 before her birthday is over.
Hope she really got the surprise and happy...
I think she is... She has to!! haha...
I remembered she said 'Wow.. thank you guys. I don't expect you guys will give me a cake' haha...
We will not forget to give u a cake of course. Especially this time is 21st birthday..^^
But we all are so tired now... I think she got home and go sleep directly because I can see her face is so tired as well and so sleepy of course. It's like 1.00 when we got back home. haha...
But, worth enough if I remember that she was happy.
And I'm feel happy and excited too because...
I don't know. Just feel that way..
Maybe if you do something even not much and the person likes it, it will feel so great, isn't it? hehe..
